Vusi Khumalo was born in Balfour North, Gauteng, South Africa in 1951. Vusi Khumalo completed his basic education in Germiston. In 1986, Khumalo, his wife and family fled into exile, first to a camp in Zambia and then to one at Dakawa in Tanzania. It was here where he first had an opportunity to explore fully his life-long hobby, art.
Khumalo would continue to work and study in the art industry, eventually becoming a respected and internationally successful artist. Khumalo is now working as a full time artist in the Eastern Cape, where he lives with his wife, Lokhuthula and their two children.
