Rising talent Asanda Kupa’s art speaks directly to South Africa’s dramatic socio-economic inequalities and its troubled political landscape. Kupa’s story starts in a small Karoo town called Molteno. He discovered his passion for art in school, where he illustrated super-heroes and soldiers to the delight of his friends but he, like many in his generation, could not afford to study further. He began painting again while working part-time and took every opportunity he could to improve himself and his work. He would go on to achieve a diploma in visual arts from Walter Sisulu University. He has continued to work and grow as an Artist based in Johannesburg since 2012.
